Psychotherapy and Counselling for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Welcome, and thank you for visiting London Therapy Space. I'm Innes Meek.

I know from personal experience that life is full of ups and downs and it can sometimes feel as if the downs are overwhelming. I will seek to help you understand how you are feeling, what you are feeling and why you are feeling this way.

Doing this may involve looking to the past, including childhood and familial relationships, as this is often the best way of understanding the present. But it may also involve more existential considerations around things such as meaningfulness, existence, love, desire, death and purpose.

My goal is not to impose my thoughts and inevitable biases onto you, but instead to create a space where you can be free to explore your own thoughts and guide you towards potential solutions.

A Safe Space to Talk

Psychotherapy provides a space for you to talk freely and openly, safe in the knowledge that you won't be judged. My role is different to that of a friend, who might typically seek to tell you that "all is not as bad as it seems" but instead to explore your difficulties at your own time, whilst adhering to strict confidentiality protocols.

The Examined Life

Therapy can be a unique opportunity to take the time to explore your life to better understand who you are. Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living, and whilst the wording is perhaps strong, the notion that we can all benefit from examining ourselves is certainly one that I subscribe to.

Seek Change in your Life

Through understanding and exploration of who you are, psychotherapy can be utilised to facilitate change in your life. This change can manifest in many ways, including reaching an understanding of why you act or react in a certain way to particular stimuli, and learning to accept the way you are, the way you have been, and the way you will be.

About Me

I am trained in integrative psychotherapy, which means that I seek to integrate different therapy techniques into my work, and adapt to my clients needs. I have an MA and a PGDip from Regent's University, a world-renowned training institution for psychotherapy.

I have experience in private therapy institutions where I have worked with people with a range of issues, in particular stress, anxiety and depression; and within the NHS, based in a Community Mental Health Trust, where clients have typically experienced psychosis and/or suffer from mental health conditions such as schizophrenia.

Prior to working as a psychotherapist I had a career working in marketing for, predominately, sports based technology start-ups.

How can therapy help?

People choose to come to therapy for many different reasons. This is why I seek to use my integrative training to adapt therapy to the needs of the client. Issues I have helped clients with include:

Feelings of stress or anxiety

Panic attacks

Relationship problems

Grief, loss or bereavement

Problems with addiction

Trauma and post-traumatic stress

Abuse

Depression

Problems with confidence or self-esteem

Anger management

Issues relating to sexuality

Difficulties at work or in retirement

Problems with family or school life

Men's Issues

Qualifications

I am a BACP registered Psychotherapist working in London. I have an MA and Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from Regent's University

My location

I work from private offices in Walthamstow, E17, as well as from my home office in Clapton, E5, and see clients from the surrounding areas of Hackney, Walthamstow, Islington, Tower Hamlets, Stratford and East London areas.

In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.

Sessions

Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. I typically work with no pre-determined end-date to therapy, preferring instead to review the work and progress at regular intervals. Clients are free to end therapy at any point, though I would advise that this is considered before a final session, as I believe endings to be an important part of therapy.

My fees are £70 per session.

Get in touch

Feel free to contact me to arrange an initial, free, ten-minute telephone consultation. Doing this enables us to understand some of the reasons for seeking therapy and gives you the opportunity to get a feel for me and whether I will be the right therapist for you.

You can also give me a call or text on 07590062724 to arrange this consultation

All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between counselling and therapy?

This is a grey area, but the short answer is that counselling is a space for people to explore current issues and to learn coping mechanisms for dealing with them whereas psychotherapy will often involve going deeper. The training levels for psychotherapists are typically higher than for counsellors, particularly if psychotherapists are to be members of governing bodies such as BACP.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Client confidentiality is a fundamental principle upon which psychotherapy depends for success. I am held to the highest professional standards as outlined under the BACP ethical framework.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

I feel therapy works best when someone is truly free to speak, without anyone who knows them influencing that freedom. This is why psychotherapists don't typically work with anyone with whom they have even a remote social or familial connection. That said, I do seek to adapt my therapy to the needs of the client, and so remain open-minded to the possibility of a client bringing along a friend or family member should circumstances dictate it to be absolutely necessary.

How long will I need to have counselling for?

I typically work with no pre-determined end date to therapy, preferring instead to review the work and progress at regular intervals. Clients are free to end therapy at any point, though I would advise that this is considered before a final session, as I believe endings to be an important part of therapy.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

My aim is to have a ten-minute initial assessment phone call within three days of your enquiry. During this call we can seek to find an appropriate start date which, dependant on the day and time will typically be within two

weeks of the assessment.
